History

Why a wind farm in the L’Érable region?
The objective of Quebec Government in its 2006-2015 Energy Policy was to achieve the target of 4000 MW of wind energy.

A first call for tenders was issued by Hydro-Québec in 2003, with the goal of selecting 1000 MW of wind energy located exclusively in the Gaspésie region and in the RCM of La Matanie.

On October 31, 2005, Hydro-Québec issued a new call for tenders and, in May 2008, it selected 15 projects (2004.5 MW) from 67 bids totalling 7800 MW of wind energy. The L’Érable Wind Farm, with its 100 MW, was one of them.

Another call for tenders for 500 MW of wind energy then was issued in 2009, and a last for 450 MW in 2013, all completing the objective of 4000 MW for the province.

Construction of the L’Érable wind farm began in 2011 and official commercial operations began in November 2013.
